Well, I love history, always have, always will, and so shows with some kind of historical element will always leap out at me from the programme and an inbox full of press releases. The focus of this first one is the fight for women’s bodily autonomy, and the historical people and stories you’ll hear about are illustrative of the still-extant gender health gap. 1457, The Boy At Rest | Assembly George Square | 31 Jul-24 Aug
“In Fifteenth Century Korea, boy King Danjong was overthrown and poisoned by his ambitious uncle. His loyal followers sacrificed everything to protect him, while Queen Jeongsun spent 64 years dyeing cloth in mourning, refusing royal aid and preserving his memory”. A fascinating sounding musical blending modern melodies with traditional Korean percussion and folk rhythms. If you’re a regular and seasoned sort of a Fringe-goer, it’s entirely possible that you’ll have already seen this show, given its previous success, but I think that the mistakes in this one are different from in previous years, so you know, you’ve got no excuse.
