Sarah Alice Shull’s one-woman show ‘Something To Believe In’ is highly personal and extremely relevant. It is a semi-autobiographical narrative of growing up in an all girls’, private, Catholic school in Kentucky. Shull holds our attention for the entirety of the performance. She brings to life this naïve, kind, likeable and energetic queer young woman who just wanted to be a good girl and who didn’t understand much of what was going on. As she reflects on her past, she explores and exposes the Catholic Church’s problematic history, and its murky connections to US politics. The show explores how so much of religion is about power, and how it is so hard to understand what that institution even believes in.
