Susie McCabe: Merchant Of Menace (Off The Kerb Productions)

McCabe’s career trajectory has seen her selling out rooms like the Assembly. It’s easy to see why, based on the strength of tonight’s performance. The weekend McCabe and her wife spend at the Balmoral Hotel sets the theme that ends at the Houses Of Parliament: Someone as rough and ready as McCabe keeps finding herself in unusual places where she battles to fit in. Her friends and family’s reactions to her having a day off the drink or attempting to better herself are met, respectively, with an intervention and a wry “Oh aye? Listen to this”. A closing section on the Tories’ demonisation of minorities and the poor feels a bit tacked on but relevant nonetheless.

Assembly George Square Studios, run ended.
