COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Ellie MacPherson: Babe Lincoln (Wide Awakes Productions)
Is the world ready for the irrepressible and hugely talented Ellie McPherson? Presumably yes, if the packed house assembled to witness this on point performance is anything to go by. It’s a brilliant show which is not just a reflection on America’s past but on the current state of the union through the eyes of Abraham Lincoln and on how history repeats itself. Power packed songs, brilliantly acted out were mixed seamlessly with interesting and thought provoking facts. A few facts were eyebrow raising – I did enjoy fact checking afterwards – and were well used in the show, bravo. McPherson is an outstanding comedic historian with an enthusing passion, and this all round outstanding performance really should be seen. The accompanying pianist complemented the performance excellently and this deserves mention.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 25 Aug.
