COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
The Screen Test (Bebe Cave In Association With BIGHEAD Comedy)
Bebe Cave is outstanding in this one woman show about Betsy Bitterly, a 1930s blonde bombshell with her head in the clouds dreaming of movie stardom. Cave is an absolute ball of energy as she takes us along on the bumpy ride of Bitterly’s rise and fall. She can speed it up and bring it down, as one minute she’s manic, and the next she’s subtle. Cave’s script is littered with terrific lines, and Millie Foy’s direction keeps the whole thing moving along pacily. ‘The Screen Test’ is very funny, but there’s some poignancy sprinkled throughout. It’s the kind of show that while you’re watching it, you’re thinking about when you can come to see it again.
Pleasance Courtyard, until 26 Aug.
