COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Improvabunga! (The Watch This Improv Troupe)
There’s one consistent thing about improv: obvious genius or ineptitude aside, it’s hard to review. But here goes. Genres are picked from the throw of a dart at a Bullseye-style board of six options. That’s the safety net stuff. The highwire comes in the form of the buzzers handed out to audience members: two spark songs, one is a nailed-on punchline, and the other potentially shapes the whole thing. It’s an audacious time (and place) to still be putting on something with a ‘family friendly’ tag and so for that, I’d describe this as the best show in town (for the implied demographic in the denoted timeslot. I guess that might get cut for the poster but hey, that’s improv…).
