COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
The Way Of The World (YAT)
Over a dozen actors – splendid in full period regalia – rattle through this whimsical, witty Restoration comedy. Despite the age of the text, the talented young actors find clear parallels between London today and seventeenth century England. The cast are universally talented, bringing out the humour in the 300 year old script with apparent ease. A tale of deceit, double-dealing, adultery and love, it’s packed to the brim with clever rejoinders and Machiavellian plotting. At times the pace counts against it – the clarity of some lines lost in a breathless, breakneck delivery – but by and large the frenetic non-stop action ensures the audience is amused and entertained throughout.
