Written and performed by a group of young adults destined to grace the stages of the West End, ‘1,000 Suns’ is the story of American survivors of a nuclear war left wanting to discover their identity. It’s a folk-rock musical – many songs are performed with just an acoustic guitar – and the beautiful simplicity of this allows both Hope and Laurie’s bright, crisp voices to soar across the room sending a shiver down your spine. Full cast numbers with strong harmonies have a similar effect. At times the plot became over-complicated with tragedy after tragedy, but it’s easy to get lost within this musical, and Joe Eason (writer, lyricist, musician and performer) is definitely a name to watch out for.
