COVERING THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL SINCE 1996
Fliss Russell – Life Is Fliss (Fliss Russell / PBH’s Free Fringe)
Fliss Russell performed character comedy that hinted at excellence but seemed to let itself down due to a lack of preparation; her performance demonstrated the skills of an accomplished actress and a natural comedian but in this show, she lacked consistency. Playing the likes of time travellers and pirates, Fliss allowed the distinction between her characters slip as she mixed up accents and became distracted by her own mistakes. Consequently, she and her characters lacked focus. Having said this, Fliss was endearing, and the show did progressively improve. I only hope she repeats this pattern with respect to the entire run at the festival; this show has great potential but needs tweaking.
