Action To The Word return with their acclaimed production of ‘A Clockwork Orange’ (“breathtaking – 5/5” said ThreeWeeks). But first Artistic Director Alexandra Spencer-Jones tackles the Quick Quiz.

TW: Tell us about your 2012 show in no more than 60 words.
AS: Our show is a playtime of orgiastic ultraviolence and sexuality telling the famous story of Alex DeLarge as he is put through an horrific torture treatment to cure him of his criminality. Using physical theatre, a banging soundtrack and nasty ultraviolence, this award-winning horror show returns to Edinburgh after it’s sell-out success in 2011.

TW: Tell us about another show or performer you’re looking forward to seeing this year.
AS: We’re looking forward to seeing Camille O’Sullivan (at the Assembly Rooms and International Festival) – a masterclass in performance. We’ve followed her from her Fringe beginnings and delight in seeing her year after year at the Festival. We’re also looking out for Les Enfants Terrible’s ‘The Trench’, Max & Ivan and Boris & Sergey (all at the Pleasance Courtyard).

TW: How will you be preparing for the Fringe this year?
AS: With blood, sweat and tears. The physical preparation for ‘A Clockwork Orange’ is gruelling. The boys have to be in great shape and stamina before the Festival to maintain the levels of energy they need to give the show the level of buzz it needs. Very practically we’re back in rehearsals getting prepped to come back to beautiful bonny Scotland.

TW: What advice would you have for someone coming to the Fringe for the first time?
AS: Surround yourself with everything the Fringe has to offer, see as much theatre as possible. If you’re up as a performer for the first time, only listen to the good reviews!

TW: If your show was an Olympic sport, what would it be and why?
AS: ‘A Clockwork Orange’ would be the Triathlon. It has the grace and elegance of the swim, the determination of the cycle and the relentless energy of the run – the transitions in between barely allow you time to breathe.

Action To The Word’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’ was performed at Pleasance Courtyard at Fringe 2012.
