The Way To Keep Him (Cheltenham Ladies’ College)
By Samuel Graydon | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
In a Restoration Comedy the jokes, like the action, are fast and clever. Cheltenham Ladies’ College, therefore, have picked a good play to perform. In respect to this particular performance, the staging and lighting were simple, leaving the actors to primarily carry the performance. Luckily, the acting was generally good. Lydia Winkfield played a brilliant, headstrong Mrs. Bellmore, creating laughs even when in the script there were none. However, this standard was not achieved by all the cast. Issy Villier as Mr. Lovemore, for example, was rather flat in her delivery, meaning the character felt rather passionless as a lover. Overall, with a bit more verve from the cast, this could be a very good production.
Gryphon Venues at The Point Hotel, until 24 Aug, 1.30pm.
