Something Beginning With (ARK Theatre)
By Samuel Graydon | Published on Sunday 25 August 2013
A comedy that is both genuinely dark and genuinely funny is rarer than one would expect, so to see the two man show ‘Something Beginning With’ would, if nothing else, be somewhat novel, for it fits the description very well. Its humour is the humour of stereotypical young men, very much like ‘The Inbetweeners’; crass and full of swearing. It is, nevertheless, funny. John Pessol and Davy Quinlan work well as a duo, and their timing, like their acting, is impressive. The darkness of the show crystallises with the plot twist, which I really wasn’t expecting, and which is testament to the good writing – despite the plot’s slightly repetitious nature, and slightly contrived feel. A very good dark comedy.
Paradise in The Vault, until 24 Aug, 6.15pm.
