ED2013 2/5 Reviews ED2013 Theatre Reviews
Romeo/Juliet (Royal Family Productions USA)
By Samuel Graydon | Published on Saturday 10 August 2013
Being a Shakespeare adaptation, ‘Romeo/Juliet’ has his beautiful prose and poetry running through it. However, as it was a physical piece of theatre, much of the original script had been cut in favour of unscripted movement. These moments worked best with the acrobatic combat scenes between the Montagues and Capulets. Yet, due to the lack of the spoken word in the physical scenes, I found I struggled to keep up with the intricacies of the plot. And, though I know the play well, I was quite confused at some points. One of the play’s few props, a large sheet to which the actors intermittently added hand-painting, served only to add to my puzzlement. Overall, this production has left me a little perplexed.
C too, until 26 Aug (not 13), 2.30pm.
