Darren Maskell – A Woodlouse Trapped Underneath A Glass (Darren Maskell)

By | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013

This show is abysmal from start to finish. Darren Maskell’s performance, which blends storytelling with absurd audience interaction, makes for a very disconcerting forty minutes. He starts proceedings by clambering into a woodlouse costume, then takes it off moments later. This gives you an idea of the nonsensical drivel that awaits if you go and see this show. The audience interaction that followed was simply beyond comprehension, and made the spectators feel very uncomfortable. This was accompanied by recitals of lifeless short stories, which felt very out of place and had a distinct whiff of pretentiousness to them. In all, this is a dreadful show, which makes forty short minutes seem like a lifetime.

Laughing Horse @ The Counting House, until 25 Aug, 5.10pm.
