A Play with Words and Blind Love (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Melissa Steel | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
Their two plays may be short, but Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School’s performances will stick with you for a long time. This is especially true of ‘Blind Love’, a humorous, poignant and polished piece about letting go of what you love – I would bring some tissues to wipe away the tears. ‘A Play with Words’ is perhaps cleverer than its sister play, but aside from its tongue-twisting word games, the cheesy comedy of sound effects and toilet gags is disappointing, especially when compared with the subtlety of the first play. With a few adjustments, this talented bunch could have a very nice show on their hands. It just feels a little lop-sided right now.
Pilrig Studio, until 8 Aug, times vary.
