Heads Up (Dance Base, National Centre For Dance)

By | Published on Friday 30 August 2013

‘Heads Up’ presented the audience with a mixed bag of dances: an over 60s group, classical Indian Sattriya, contemporary and theatrical comedy dance. The over 60s performed a piece about memory, which was at times touching and intriguing. However, with a constant contemplation of the project onstage throughout, the performance seemed a bit disjointed. The Sattriya was slick and precise and the theatrical comedy dance very funny. If the show only consisted of the final contemporary piece by duo Kate Rafter and Dustin Ordway, entitled Black & Blue, it would be a highly recommended show. Energetic, with impressive lifts and falls, this duo deserves recognition. Unfortunately, a lot of the show was badly put together and became a little dreary and tiresome to watch.

Dance Base – National Centre for Dance, until 17 Aug, times vary.
