Blue Lotus – Summer (Dance Ihayami)

By | Published on Friday 30 August 2013

Starting with an explanation of the importance of the lotus flower and the seasons in this Indian dance, the audience were shown how dance is above all a form of communication. The beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens acted as the perfect location for this performance, creating a serene atmosphere that made the entire performance rather calming. The routine combined contemporary and classical Indian dance, and was mostly a dance of gestures, symbolising the changing seasons. Invited to follow the rhythm of the drum, the audience walked around the gardens coming across new locations and finding dancers hidden around everywhere. The dancing was precise and the shapes that were formed were inventive and striking, forming a truly exciting hour.

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, until 18 Aug, 4.00pm.
