ED2013 4/5 Reviews ED2013 Musical Reviews
West End At The Fringe (MCG Productions)
By Julian Joseph | Published on Monday 12 August 2013
The Professional musical theatre performers deliver masterful renditions of toe-tapping West End classics, from hits such as ‘Sweeney Todd’, ‘Spamalot’, ‘Wicked’ and ‘Into the Woods’. The five piece ensemble performs passionately, clearly loving what they are doing. The big production numbers are exciting, energetically sung, and well-choreographed, while the intimate character ballads are atmospheric and moving. The songs are linked by a loose plot that, while a little weak, will occasionally add another layer of drama, such as a duet by two characters who have fallen out. Though still enjoyable through strong performances, without context for each song, anyone who isn’t a die-hard musical theatre fan may find themselves a little lost. However, those who are will be in heaven.
