Rick Wakeman (Assembly)
By Helena Wadia | Published on Friday 30 August 2013
Keyboardist, composer, songwriter and all round rock ‘n’ roll artist Rick Wakeman took to the stage to masses of applause. Though dressed very scruffily, as soon as Wakeman sat at the grand piano, his entire performance became majestic (the masses of dry ice also helped). Playing a range of his compositions, including some from his days in progressive rock band Yes, Wakeman’s performances were captivating. As much a comedian as he is a musician, he was full of charming, witty and hilarious anecdotes that provoked truly laugh out loud moments. As he constantly thanked the audience and told us how much he was enjoying Edinburgh, Wakeman’s audience were lucky to witness a night full of both laughter and beautiful music.
Assembly Hall, until 18 Aug (not 12), 10.30pm.
