Thespianage (400Hats)
By Stephanie Gray | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
This sketch show from comedy group 400Hats varies in quality. Though there are times where the audience laughs whole-heartedly, there are also times where they simply look at one another in baffled confusion. A particular highlight features a selection of bible characters gathered in a bar, but a few minutes on psychological experimentation falls somewhat flat. It’s difficult to determine what doesn’t work in this comedy; that is until the final three minutes, during which the group promise to deliver 23 quick sketches. The pace is quickened, and after 45 minutes of occasionally tedious, drawn out sketches, this comes as a welcome relief. If they maintained a more consistent pace throughout, and cut some of the weaker material, they’d have the makings of a very good show.
theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, until 25 Aug (not 18), 8.05pm.
