Griff Rees Jokes (Griffith and Rees / Free Festival)

By | Published on Saturday 24 August 2013

It’s clear from outset the Lloyd Griffith has star quality. His stories are told with a certain brand of self-deprecating confidence that mean you can’t help but laugh out loud along with him. Intensely likeable, Griffith has a twinkle in his eye and the best baritone I’ve ever heard in the context of a comedy show. Matt Rees’ portion of the show is downbeat almost to the point of surrealism, he elicits nervous laughter as he depicts a life of cheese eating and being misrepresented at Latitude that is inexplicably absorbing, with a particularly good prop gag thrown in for good measure. Separately, each is incredibly talented, however I have to question the decision to combine the two, very different styles under the same banner.

Laughing Horse @ The Newsroom, until 26 Aug, 6.15pm.
