Reclamation (Joe Hakim, Mike Watts, Ruth E Dixon / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Getting back a sense of self, the Northern way. With none of that yoga and coconut water palaver, ‘Reclamation’ charts a way of coping with the modern world through poetry and dark humour. The anger of a failed relationship, a dead-end job and the prison of motherhood provide a platform for their lyrical outpourings. Ruth E Dixon is the true star of this show, which is clearly why they save her set till last. Whether attacking Londoners who have “dipped a toe in the Red Sea” but wouldn’t be caught dead in Hull, or celebrating a “weather girl’s tits”, she owns the stage. The trio did well to reclaim the North as a destination for spoken word.
