A Brief History Of Timelessness (Matt Welcome / Free Festival)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Does time exist? By taking on one of modern physics’ most perplexing and controversial questions in a one-hour Fringe show, Matt Welcome has bitten off more than he can chew. The result is a rushed lecture on clocks, “the past” and “the future”, which seems to be a more convincing argument about semantics than quantum dimensions. He dismisses audience questions with contempt and fails to explain the paradoxes that are thrown up. Welcome does raise a few laughs in his comedic look at famous physicists’ work, but too often the jokes are lost in the avalanche of words and ideas. For someone so convinced that time doesn’t exist, he was certainly beaten by it in his one-hour slot.
