Those People My Parents (Chris Matragos)
By Lewis Wade | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Five minutes into this show it is clear that Chris Matragos has talent as a performer. It is also clear that this show is going to be dreadful, for Matragos’ characters are little more than exaggerated cartoons, none of whom are remotely likeable. Matragos himself aims for a Ferris Bueller-esque persona, but ends up with all of the neurosis and none of the confidence, and hence none of the charm. As he waltzes through classic teenage, middle-class problems (yard work, curfews) without a hint of irony, Matragos seems to get lost amid his own self-indulgence. Or I assume this must be the case, as the final cathartic realisation is as obvious as the sun rising in the East.
