Skye (North London Collegiate School)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

‘Skye’ is the tale of the events which end with Annie Jacobs leaving her three year old daughter in the car while she went to a party. The young cast are all strong performers, with Kate Howlett standing out as the cold prosecution lawyer and Jennifer Walser as the emotionally distraught Annie, and the play provides a convincing insight into Annie’s troubles. However, the script is a touch obvious in places – the parallels between Annie and the prosecutor’s daughter aren’t handled with enough subtlety, for example – and the longer dance routines seem out of place, robbing the play of some of its emotional punch. In the end, there just isn’t quite the oomph needed to make this a great piece.
