Rod Is God (Phil Mcintyre Management)
By James Valentine | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
When the storyline involves two prospect-free idlers who come across £20,000 and spend it all on starting a cult, you can expect an interesting show to unfold. ‘Rod Is God’, created by the team behind ‘Late Night Gimp Fight’, is an amusing tale of the absurdity of cults, the power of a meme, and the battle between greed and philanthropy. It is dark, funny, and emotionally charged, as it explores wider themes of humanity’s desperation and search for something more, and although the actors get off to a slow start, their performance soon improves as the on stage chemistry between the two leads holds the performance together brilliantly. A cameo appearance by Blake Harrison, Neil from ‘The Inbetweeners’, rounds off an amusing show.
