Tatyana (Edinburgh International Festival / Deborah Colker Dance Company)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Beautiful, enchanting, breathtaking, ‘Tatyana’ incorporates the best of ballet and classical music from Brazil. Picking up a programme is recommended, but even without knowing Alexander Pushkin’s novel, ‘Eugene Onegin’, on which the show is based, audiences are mesmerised by the controlled, graceful, fluid movement of the arms and legs. These dancers are a wonder to watch as they convey emotion through back bends and slow but powerful dance. Additionally, the mix of classical music and media projection in the second half adds to the story, using simple lines and curves to great effect; the second act is cinematic, mysterious, artistic, and captivating to watch. Your breath will be taken away as this Brazilian dance company bring a classic to life.

The Edinburgh Playhouse, 11-14 Aug, 7.30pm.
