Fruitful Ties And Bone Dust (Steinvor Palsson / Matthew Hawkins and Lucy Suggate)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

Two lemons and a chain of silk ties are positioned downstage left and a couple emerge in costumes of sequins, stockings and, yes, more silk ties. Palsson and Hawkins model their bodies (and the lemons) with dramatic eccentricity and despite their age they bend and extend their limbs with strength and sophistication. Bold yet subdued, they are unnerving but ever so brilliant. ‘Bone Dust’ begins with a pair of bare legs and feet poking out from a dishevelled black tutu, writhing, to reveal a skull mask for a head. Lucy Suggate’s broken-down ballet body gives her cause for concern and, as she quickly disrobes, she poses a choreographic conundrum to her audience; in honesty to herself and her art.
