The extreme slowness with which the performers move – in memory of theatre director and playwright Ohta Shogo – makes this piece about human relationships with electronic devices extremely unnerving. The music is highly uncomfortable on your ears and the inventive set (a Matrix style layout of keyboards and wires) is used to its full potential. The ending is surprising, breaking entirely with the darkness that precedes it, but perhaps this is just an unexpected twist to further alienate the audience. The show provides time to contemplate what’s unfolding as you watch restlessly, but some advice: don’t sit in the front row unless you want to be suddenly attacked by a man brandishing a keyboard, it looks painful!

Sweet Grassmarket, 8-17 Aug, 10.20am.
