My Little Songbook (Emily Rose / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Utterly adorable from start to finish, singer-songwriter Emily Rose guided the audience through her failed relationships and childhood woes with comic, yet emotionally effective songs. With her beautiful mastership of the piano and a wonderfully interesting vocal, the instantly likeable Emily often sounded musically akin to Regina Spektor, using word repetition and note jumping techniques. There were some real gems entwined into the set and although the delivery was not always spot-on, it wasn’t distracting from the session. Amusing stories and Woody Allen impressions were highlights. Her performance was not fault free, with the occasional slip of the tongue, but her life, it seems, is a delightful a song and one that she should most definitely sing!
