Burly Ceilidh Club (Ghillie Dhu)
By Lewis Wade | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The beautifully ornate auditorium at the Gillie Dhu is a resplendent spot to spend a traditional Scottish afternoon. The first half of this session consists of a delicious two or three course meal; a pleasant pre-cursor and a good chance to meet some of your fellow dancers. The dancing portion that follows should be taken very much as a taster course though; the moves are carefully taught by an experienced professional, before he plays the accordion – as opposed to having a full band – for the dances themselves. The tutorial is ideal for tourists or ceilidh beginners, whereas those looking for the real deal should check out the evening dances that take place almost every night at the same venue.
