Under Your Feet (Elise Harris / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Thursday 16 August 2012

In something not much resembling a comedy show, Elise Harris explained the benefits of archaeology, from collecting earrings to finding human remains in your garden; the atmosphere reeked of a history lesson, Harris coming over like an overzealous teacher attempting to engage the class – there was even the obligatory sleeper amongst the group, woken occasionally by Elise’s running commentary on his temporary narcolepsy. She desperately tried to jump-start the audience, but her efforts merely amounted to awkwardness and arm waving. The factual element of the act was genuinely interesting, and there was the occasional chuckle over her delusions about finding a dinosaur in the garden, but confusion over PowerPoint slides and questionable exit music ultimately made the experience bizarre.
