Tiffany Stevenson – Uncomfortably Numb (Tiffany Stevenson / SO Comedy)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

A trip to the dermatologist is the unusual but effective narrative arc in Tiffany Stevenson’s latest show, which sees the comedian tackle a range of big issues through anecdotes from her own life and some sharp observations. Her conflicted feelings about her newly attained middle-class status are particularly engaging, as is the gig’s touching final segment. However, whilst the quality of material is there, Stevenson’s delivery often felt flat and the energy of the set took a long time to build. The less-than-vocal audience probably didn’t help, but by repeatedly pointing it out, she actually made it worse. With a few tweaks to the delivery though, Stevenson’s frank and sensitive style has a lot of potential.
