The Funeral Of Conor O’Toole (Conor O’Toole)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Starting out at the Underbelly box office, a procession makes its way to a new location each night (the Pavilion Café for us), where this young comedian entertains with some stories about his death. The eerie lighting of the café fridge certainly added to the creepiness, but unfortunately O’Toole himself gave a difficult performance. With constant ”ums” punctuating his set, he didn’t seem comfortable or confident with his material, and while the rambling delivery might have been deliberate, it meant some good punchlines were lost. There were some stronger parts to the show (the opening song about a lighthouse in particular), but the vast majority of it felt a little too similar to what I imagine a teenage emo’s diary might sound like if read out loud; not that funny and slightly worrying.

Meet at Underbelly Bristo Square, 1-26 Aug (not 13), 7.30pm.
