The Beta Males’ Midnight Movie Theatre (Ditto Productions)
By Hannah Sweetnam | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The late-night screening of ‘Spiders’, an astoundingly cheese-ridden horror movie, is a frighteningly funny attack on the senses. The Beta Males use props and pranks, fooling the audience into believing, among other things, that someone was sick on stage. The film itself was questionable, using every cliché in the Horror-Bible (possibly deliberately). Nevertheless, the gore-fest had the audience screaming with both fear and laughter. Comedic references to the plot came in sketch form from the likes of McNeil and Pamphilon and The Noise Next Door, bringing light relief to the theatre. I left disturbed and confused; it was difficult to decide why this was entertaining, but it certainly was.
