Pat Burtscher’s Patopotamoose (Bound And Gagged Comedy / Glorious Management)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Pat Burtscher isn’t keen on reviewers – apparently they don’t take ‘the context’ of a gig into account. So for context’s sake: at this particular performance there was a quiet audience of about fifteen people, and Burtscher was feeling ”wonky”. After a boldly off-the-wall opening, the Canadian’s conversational style failed to generate much audience reaction, and constant references to the fact the show wasn’t going very well didn’t help. With an enigmatic mix of hopefulness and surliness, Burtscher does have some interesting and often surreal ideas about how beauty should be distributed according to karma. But on this occasion ‘Patopotamoose’ felt a bit like 25 minutes of funny material diluted by 35 minutes of awkward attempts to engage with the crowd.

Pleasance Courtyard, 1-27 Aug (not 14), 8.30pm.
