Funny’s Funny – Fantastic Fringe Finale – Free (Funny’s Funny)
By Christopher Rumbles | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The promotional material for Funny’s Funny claimed there would be a “diverse mix of styles” on show, and this was true; they ranged from awful to mediocre. Sadly the material being showcased by most of the six female comedians here often reflected a mishandled feminist approach. A lot of male stand-ups deliver some horrendously crass and unfunny lines on sex, and the line-up of Funny’s Funny seemed determined to do prove that women can do them just as badly. A joke devoid of wit, relying solely upon its obscenity, will always be unfunny regardless of who is delivering it. A good platform to promote some promising acts like Carmen Ali, but one that ultimately did not feel so “Fantastic”.
