Because I Felt Like It (Arnie Pie / Laughing Horse Free Festival)

By | Published on Wednesday 22 August 2012

Arnie Pie introduces himself with an energetic howl which soon seems unbefitting of his comedy style. The Australian comedian with Thai roots bases most of his material around this background. He jokes that you’d better climb on board with his ”light racism” since it’s okay for him to perform racial stereotyped impressions of his father and poke fun at his Asian heritage; the moral ramifications of which are made somewhat irrelevant by the fact that it’s just not that funny. Other impersonations are praiseworthy, and he squeezes the occasional laugh with an amusing observation or humorously demonstrated crudity. Pie needs to relax all the way through his show; often he seems tense and his audience banter lacks creativity.
