Treasure Island (Uncontained Arts)
By Joanna Gill | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
A farting parrot, silent Sam and honest Jim swashbuckle their way through an hour of childish capers that had the kids screaming with delight. Fans of the Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic ‘Treasure Island’ will be disappointed, but this CBBC-friendly crew lit up the stage with ‘yars’ and ‘yo ho ho’s to maintain the light and upbeat tempo in a show which was low on magic moments and heavy on fart jokes, water pistols and musical numbers. To its detriment, the show didn’t go so far into pleasing the adult audiences as others do, but to their credit, the cast acted their wooden legs off. Yet it’s not a pirate’s life for me, I’m afraid.
