Sharron Matthews Superstar: Gold (CliMar Productions)
By Hannah Sweetnam | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Sharron Matthews is a one-woman Frisky & Mannish, with a cruder and more bitter, but equally hilarious cabaret persona. Sharron tells hilarious life stories with fantastic piano accompaniment from Chris Tsujiuchi (or “Cooch”), assigning mash-ups and medleys to each scenario. Offering witty and observant, yet vulgar and obscene fun, Matthews flirts, flounces and molests her way through a series of pop classics, such as, ‘Don’t Stand So Close to Me’, ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and ‘Private Dancer’.Brilliant comic timing and phenomenal vocals, showcased in particular during a genuinely heartfelt rendition of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’, showed Sharron to be more than just a dazzling disco diva. Fabulously flamboyant and full of energy, this side-splitting show is pure ‘Gold’.
Pleasance Courtyard, 4-27 Aug (not 6, 13, 20), 3.40pm.
