Kapka Kassabova (Edinburgh International Book Festival)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Kassabova was ”bitten by the tango bug” over ten years ago and her latest book, ‘Twelve Minutes of Love’, is an examination of her journey since then, combined with the history of tango itself. In this event she reads extracts from her book, suggests that tango is the dance of the dispossessed and describes her first ”tangasm”. It is clear that for Kassabova and others tango is a life-changing experience, with the international dance community being compared to an underground cult. The discussion highlights that anyone is welcome to this dance, attractiveness as a partner being judged not on appearance but on how well one moves; by the end we all wanted to get our dancing shoes on.

Peppers Theatre, 17 Aug, 7.45pm.
