ED2011 4/5 Reviews ED2011 Theatre Reviews
The Overcoat (ACE Productions)
By Sarah Mulvenna | Published on Tuesday 16 August 2011
Banks are arguably the most reviled institution in world at present, so it comes as no surprise that a theatre company has decided to showcase finance at this year’s Fringe. This play follows the heart-warming tale of extraordinarily ordinary Akaky Akakievich’s role as a bank clerk in the booms and busts of the latter part of the 20th Century. You can’t help but be heartened by this play’s philosophy: “Tatties are important; so are birds and sitting in the park on Sundays.” The enthusiastic cast give a physical performance that would keep any audience rapt, and every twitch of Billy Mack’s features – and the soft reeds in his voice – will lift your mood and tug your heartstrings.
Pleasance Dome, 3 – 29 Aug (not 15), 12.15pm (1.45pm), £9.00 – £11.00, fpp286.
