Pool (No Water) (Bell Jar Productions)
By Jennifer Ajderian | Published on Saturday 27 August 2011
Astonishingly honest and flawlessly choreographed, a cast of three tells the story of a group of artists whose battles with love, hate and tragedy bring them to the bedside of their friend, recently crippled by a leap into a swimming pool. Torn between friendship and their own vanity, the energetic trio show distinct characters who still move, speak and feel as one, showing us the excitement in others’ misfortunes, a thirst for drama and the art present in life. Though a few unnecessary silent dances break the spell of the language somewhat, we’re still left with a highly charged and emotional production against a barren set, three violently talented actors, and a story of jealousy and blame and artistic differences.
