Coal Head, Toadstool Mouth And Other Stories (SUDS Theatre Company)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

A young grub wonders what he will become when he grows up – a beautiful butterfly, or an earthworm squishing through the soil, perhaps. This young grub is just one of the peculiar characters in this whimsical and rather dark little piece. We also see flashes into the existences of circus workers, marionettes, girls that are sad, art that comes to life and of course, Coal Head and Toadstool Mouth. The storytelling in this production is so finely tuned that the audience is completely drawn into and convinced by the strange world created by these four talented young actors. The use of props and costume is innovative but so simple it doesn’t detract from the tales themselves. Beautiful, enchanting and thoughtful.
