ED2011 3/5 Reviews ED2011 Dance & Physical Theatre Reviews
Booking Dance Festival – Split Bill (Rhythmic Circus / DAMAGEDANCE / Labyrinth Dance Theater)
By Alice Longhurst | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Featuring three American companies, this mixed program brings together a diverse range of forms and styles. Energetic and irreverent tap-dancers Rhythmic Circus were first up, strutting to an infectious live band, while the world première of Jessica Taylor’s remarkable ‘Glimpses’ provided a darkly captivating exploration of disorders of the mind. However, the highlight of the show was Labyrinth Dance Theatre’s ‘Noor’. Performer Felicia Norton’s outstanding physical storytelling told the true life story of a brave woman who worked in occupied France as a spy for the Allies during the Second World War until her execution in Dachau. All three of the pieces are well-executed, providing an entertaining initiation into the contemporary dance scene in the US.
Venue 150 at EICC, 20 – 21 Aug, 4.00pm (5.45pm), £9.00 – £12.00, fpp169.
