Little Shop Of Horrors (Violet Shock)
By Emma Keaveney | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Violet Shock’s production of Little Shop of Horrors had some clever moments and great performances – most particularly from the ‘Bop Shoo Wop’ girls – but ultimately, it was a bit hit and miss. The audience singalong segment was enthusiastic, but didn’t get the crowd as excited as the cast clearly hoped. This was not for lack of trying however, as they bounced across the stage with whoops and cheers of “You know the words!” The washed-out grey colour palette of both set and costumes was a nice touch, but not enough to lift this production from commonplace to exceptional. Unfortunately, there were one too many awkward staging moments and weaker performances for this to reach anything beyond mildly pleasing at best.
