Sunday Afternoon With The Fejes Quartet (Fejes Quartet)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

The flamboyancy of first violin Tamas Fejes comes through in every note he plays, and the trio alongside him move in perfect time and pitch. This church hall is a perfect acoustic space for the quartet who play us jaunty pieces from Haydn and Beethoven, with the “teasing” nature of the music being brought beautifully to life by the four musicians. The intricacies of the pieces shine as themes are shared between the violins, viola and cello, although the odd custom of leaving and re-taking the stage after each piece feels like stalling for time. After a two-hour set, the quartet give us a tripping and light finale, whose happy strains dance about long after the musicians have gone.

St Andrews and St George’s West, 28 Aug, 2.30pm (4.30pm), £7.00 – £10.00, fpp221.
