Jimmy Eat World (The Edge Festival)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Some bands are a one-hit wonder. Not Jimmy Eat World. Playing together for close to twenty years, last night they packed the Corn Exchange in their first gig in Edinburgh, according to lead singer, Jim Adkins. With backing vocals from singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews, they kicked off with furious songs from their latest album, Inverted. Now ten years on from album Bleed American, it still remains a firm favourite; energetic performances of ‘The Middle’ and ‘Bleed American’ attracted deservedly raucous applause. With an enthusiasm that was most evident during singles ‘23’ and ‘Work’ from Futures, Jimmy is a band that comes into their element playing live. Finishing with ‘Sweetness’ ended the gig on just the right note.

The Edge Festival at Edinburgh Corn Exchange, 25 Aug, 7.30pm, £16.50, fpp n/a.
