Walking On Broken Das (Ashvin Gidwani Productions)
By Maryam Ansari | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
An hour with Indian observational comedian, Vir Das, proved a light and enjoyable way to end an evening of Fringe frenzy. Amiable, funny and interactive, the performer certainly lived up to his reputation. Though I do enjoy my fair share of stereotypical racial jokes, Das’ act appeared to rely too heavily on them, as he could not seem to go five minutes without mentioning that he was Indian. He also engaged too superficially with Scottish culture, making mocking references to bagpipes, whiskey and haggis, which may have appealed to tourists, but perhaps come across as a little more tedious for Scottish residents. In spite of these minor flaws, however, the comedian encountered genuine, and heartfelt laughter from the pleased crowd.
