Those Bloody Teenagers – Free (Heatham House)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

These youth club members did not deserve the applause and monetary donations that they received from the unreasonably forgiving audience at the end of their abysmal free show. The underprepared emcee’s misguided introductory anecdotes tailed off without discernable punchlines, almost as if he had lost interest in his own banal storytelling; unfortunately, four of the five acts he welcomed onstage fared even worse, failing to enliven their hormonal, half-baked observations with embarrassing profanities and wearisome audience participation. In a performance containing more fillers than a foam cavity insulators’ convention, Martha Owen’s short but sweet routine was a thoughtful breath of fresh air. With greater confidence and circuit experience, she could go far. Meanwhile, her friends should definitely focus on their education.
